Museum of the Bavarian Kings (Museum der Bayerischen Könige)The museum is directly located at the lake Alpsee below the Royal Castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau. Explore a permanent unique exhibition within a journey through time into the history of the Wittelsbach dynasty and their bavarian Kings on an exhibition area of 1.500 square metres. Experience the history of King Ludwig II and his family in authentic vicinity of the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.
Precious objects, fascinating stories and interactive media stations will provide you an extraordinary insight into the history of the former Royal Family and their still living descendants. Admire most modern museum technology like King Ludwig’s further projects for example his plans of a Chinese summer palace, a Bycantine palace or his biggest project, Falkenstein castle in 3-D-animation. Find original exhibits like a travel kit of king Maximilian II, valuable jewelry, the whole Royal porcelain or the highlight of the exhibition – the original coat of King Ludwig II.
The hall of the Royal Castles with its 20 metres long phantastic table decoration, showing the history of the German Nibelungen, made by bronze and gold platinated and panaroma view to Hohenschwangau castle and the lake Alpsee is also one the highlights of the museum.
Portable audio-guide devices in German and English are available free of charge. Other languages are still in work and will be available soon and also free of charge.The tickets for the museum are not time-bound. You can move freely throughout the museum at your own pace and stay in the museum as long as you wish.
Guided tours through the museum with a German or English speaking guide for individual guests and/or for groups available on request. Subject-specific guided tours also for children and pupils available.
The entire museum is accessible without any barriers or obstacles for the physically disabled and visitors in wheelchairs.
