The ground-floor palace kitchen boasted the most modern technology for those times: revolving spits automaticly powered by the heat of the fire, cabinets for keeping food warm, heated by the waste heat from the kitchen stove, as well as hot and cold running water, all of which eased the work of the kitchen staff. the kitchen was in operation for only two years - from 1884 until king ludwig`s death in 1886.

The king`s ludwig personal chef had his hands full because ludwig was a discriminating diner with a taste for exquisite dishes. he ate soupe, fish, minced dishes or meat that had been cooked for hours until it was soft. he drank wine, champagne, liqueur and liked arrack. he was mot however, keen on beer.
